Forum Post: CCS/MSP-FET: CCS V6.1 Configuring Debugger

$

Part Number: MSP-FET Tool/software: Code Composer Studio Hi All, I have been using the MSP-FET with the MSP430-F5528 for several months without issue. As of a couple days ago, I cannot launch the debugger (remains in the 'configuring debugger' window for too long and doesn't ever end up launching). I have tried many of the fixes listed in the user guides, but none have helped (power cycling, different USB ports, deleting .launches file). Note the green LED on the MSP-FET is still on, and I am able to use the BSL on my device to program it (but I need the JTAG for debugging). I'm assuming if the issue is hardware it would be in the MSP-FET , but I want to make sure the issue isn't software first. I've attached the debug logs here. I would appreciate any assistance!
Anyone knows where I can get C55x code generation tools version 3.3.2?
It is not available for public download. But the only difference between 3.3.2 and later 3.3.x versions is bug fixes. That being the case, it seems you would prefer 3.3.6, the most recent 3.3.x release. And that is available for download . If version 3.3.6 does not work for you, please explain why. Thanks and regards, -George

Victor, Thanks for the reply. Yes, different models take different durations to simulate but the strange part of this issue is that it's identical simulations that take different durations. We will take a look and revisit this after the holidays. Thanks again, -Sam

Forum Post: RE: When MSP432Ware v3.50.00.02 examples imported in CCS 7.0.0.00033 get build errors due to startup files for all tool chains being included
Using the Resource Explorer in CCS 7.0.0.00033 imported some MSP432Ware v3.50.00.02 examples. The imported examples are automatically set to use the TI ARM compiler, but the CCS project explorer shows that the project is set to compile the startup source files for the TI, EWARM, GCC and Keil toolchains
Chester, This is a known issue with using that version of MSP432Ware with online Resource Explorer. There is now a new package for MSP432 available on Resource Explorer. It is called the SimpleLink MSP432 SDK, and includes the examples that were in MSP432Ware and more. Importing the Register level examples from this package via Resource Explorer should work fine. Let us know if you run into issues with this package.

Forum Post: RE: CCS: CCS Preprocessor Syntax Coloring

Joseph,
Since the linker .cmd files already support syntax coloring (for keywords and comments), I figured there should be a way to customize the syntax coloring so I tried poking around various settings, but was unable to find where syntax coloring is configured for the linker .cmd files (though I do see syntax coloring for C/C++ files).
I looked at different settings as well, but unfortunately so far couldn't find a way to make the syntax coloring work for preprocessor directives in linker .cmd files like it does in source/header files. Perhaps if someone else from the community managed to do this, they will chime in with their input.

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC1310 Tool/software: Code Composer Studio The sample projects for the CC1310 launchpad in resource explorer have a nicely formatted HTML file version of the README file. It looks like these HTML files are generated from the README file in Markdown format. Which conversion utility is used to generate these HTML files and is this utility available to others in the public domain?

Part Number: CCSTUDIO Tool/software: Code Composer Studio Code Composer Studio v7 is now available for download. www.ti.com/ccstudio While there are many changes included with version 7 the single biggest difference deals with licensing. With the introduction of CCSv7 you can simply download CCS, install it and start using it. You are no longer required to purchase a separate license or configure a license server. It is our objective to continue to lower the cost of getting started with development on TI embedded platforms. This change will make the process much more simple. There is a short video at the link below that shows CCSv7. (Please visit the site to view this video) In CCSv6.2 we introduced a beta version of Resource Explorer with Cloud integration. This is now available as a production version in CCSv7. The big advantage of this is that you can see the software products and resources that are available for your platform without having to download and install them first. Over the coming year there will be more and more content exposed via Resource Explorer. Many of the training resources such as videos and workshops for CCS have already been integrated. Give CCSv7 a try today: www.ti.com/ccstudio Regards, John

I realize the 3.3.6 is the most up to date and have bug fixes, but I need to re-create the exact program image (bin file) through hex55. Both 3.3.6 and 3.3.3 generate different images. Only 3.3.2 can give me the bit exact image.

Forum Post: RE: CCS/TMS320F28069: can divf32 be used in the CLA ?

The compiler builds the code for CLA when the source file extension is .cla. The only intrinsics allowed in a .cla file are listed in the table titled C/C++ Compiler Intrinsics for CLA in the C2000 compiler manual . You will see that __divf32 is not among them. The __divf32 intrinsic is supported only when building for the main C2000 CPU, which means the source file must have the extension .c (for C) or .cpp (for C++). Thanks and regards, -George

Hi Sorry for the delay. I figured it out. For some reasons I was able to debug the program without any problems. But as it turned out, something was wrong with the voltage regulation from 5V to 3.3V. As soon as I fixed it, it was running smooth again. Fabian

Scott, Which version of MSP430Ware are you importing the project from? And could you please describe the exact steps you take to import the project (is it via Resource Explorer or directly from the CCS menu?). Also it will be helpful if you could attach the full output in the CCS build console (save it off to a text file and attach it there).

Hi Joe,
the headers and the c files are at the same folder, i added this path like that: "${workspace_loc:/${ProjName}/Includes}"
Note that the build tools will default to looking in the same directory as the source file anyway
when i'm trying to build the progrm i'm getting a linker error: "__TI_int06" redefined: first defined in "./main.obj"; redefined in "./Includes/LCD.obj"
Check out the below thread. It covers a similar issue: https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/223362 Thanks ki
I attached the linkInfo.xml
Looking at the linkInfo.xml file shows the overall FRAM area as: FRAM 0x0 0x4400 0xbb80 0x3d9a 0x7de6 RWIX 0x4400 0x154 0x4554 0x2ac 0x4800 0x3c46 0x8446 0x7b3a i.e. the FRAM area has two allocated spaces of size 0x154 and 0x3c46 = 15770 bytes = the total usage of the FRAM region reported in the CCS Memory Allocation view. The allocated_space of start address 0x4400 and size 0x154 is occupied by the .fram_vars section reported in the linker map file: .fram_vars * 0 00004400 00000154 00004400 00000150 main.obj (.fram_vars:uninit) [fill = 0] 00004550 00000004 main.obj (.fram_vars:init) The allocated_space of start address 0x4800 and size 0x3c46 is occupied by the following sections in the linker map file: .cinit 0 00004800 00000174 .const 0 00004974 000000e0 /* .const allocated immediately after end of .cinit */ /* gap of 0x1AC bytes between end of .cinit section and start of .text section */ .text 0 00004c00 00003846 /* 0x3C46 bytes between start of .cinit section and end of .text section */ I think the 0x1AC bytes of "padding" inserted between the .const and .text segments by the linker, for the purpose of MPU segments, incorrectly gets added to the total FRAM region usage by the linker.

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D Tool/software: Code Composer Studio After updating CCS at 18.12.2016, CCS cracks when I try to connect to LAUNCHXL-F28379D to debug. I just start to learn LAUNCHXL-F28379D and use only default example project and slightly change something. But 18th of December, CCS warns me has an update. I accept it to use always latest version of CCS. It only warns me I cannot use CCS in Win XP OS if I update CCS. I accept it because I use W10. At this time I created very first project step by step what "F2837xD-FRM-EX-UG.pdf" file says. I compile with many errors. But I compare all project properties and at last I compiled it with no error with warnings. I try to debug it but CCS start to load (I think) program to LAUNCHpad and cracked. Next time I try to connect LAUNCHpad with default example project because I know it works at debugger mode. CCS cracked again. Now I hit to wall and I need a help to pass this problem. Is problem ends if I download and install the CCS again? Thanks, Volkan Kara

Hello, Assuming you have a 'main' function, it sounds like your application is hitting some exception before it can reach 'main'. As for why, the reasons can vary and often specific to your environment/application. What I suggest is to disable the "auto-run to main" option in the Debugger Options, reload the program so that it is at the code entry point, and step through to see where it is that the application goes wrong before it reaches main. Thanks ki
while importing my CCSv3-Project to CCSv6 I get strange warnings,
Do you mean at build time, not import time? It is odd that the two paths that are listed are the same location. Is the project perhaps specifying this library path in two different places (such as in the GUI linker options and in the linker command file)?
As I stated in my previous post, I managed to set the fast math library before the rts library
I'm pretty sure you only changed the File Search Path. That is, the order in which the -i directory_name options appear. This only affects the order in which directories are searched to find library files , the something .lib files. This has no bearing on the order in which the linker searches the contents of those libraries. That is controlled, among other things, by the order in which the library files appear to the linker. In my last post I summarized the relative positions of the library files. The compiler RTS library appears before the fast math library. This has to change. Please see this post for the details of how to make that change in CCS. That situation is not exactly the same as this one, but it is similar. Thanks and regards, -George
