Just as a point of reference I ran into exactly the same situation... the base install of CCS5.5.0.00077 worked but once I ran the update it did not.
I talked Signum support and they were aware that "some people" have been having issues with CCS 5.5 but he really didn't seem to care too much. I didn't get the feeling that there were any plans whatsoever to investigate the issue.
