I need to have "Name", "Value", "Format", "Address", and "Type" per the previously referenced TI application notes.
Note that you are referencing an old document. CCSv5 is based off a complete different framework than v3. So it is going to look a lot different and the exact steps you are following will not match. However, there should be 4 fields in the Expressions view, not 2. Could you provide a screenshot?

I did consult this TI CCS web page
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php?title=C2000_Getting_Started_with_Code_Composer_Studio_v5
and I referenced the section "Adding Variables to the Expression View". I can not understand how to use these instructions to add an expression.

Note that when in a debug session, you are highlighting the variable in the source file in the editor then right-clicking on it and selecting the option to add to the expressions view.

Your screenshot did not come through.
Thanks
